I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance
- Carl Sagan
Curious if anyone has any thoughts on this quote? I think it was written in 1995

you're not wrong. If you feel like it man you should post about vanlife. You seemed kind of knowledgeable about it. If you feel like it if not its cool. Also I saw this recently.. thought it was interesting how much Baltimore has changed
I would say they were more than great. Why don't consoles today have awesome 4 player games? Because they want everyone to have their own console, their own tv, their own controller, their own subscription to their service. Its all bullshit. Not to mention going from 2d to 3d was a huge deal. No other generation has made that big of a leap imho

I don't really watch that stuff anymore. It's good to learn about stuff and store it in your memory bank in case you need it later. People who are used to doing ok with very little will probably do vanlife the easiest.
As far as that video. I don't live there. But am familiar with many different areas of it. It's no different than any other large city like Detroit. Outsourcing of manufacturing, and degradation of black families and values has led to it becoming what it is. But there are still areas that are high rent districts where a small row house is $4,000 per month to rent.
