Pretty much every US resident, provided that they're not fob, is going to get 0.5-1% African added to their report. Some of them might list it under other, the reason for that is so that they can keep you guessing, without giving you a definitive answer.

It's all a scam anyway, as 2 separate reports, even from the same country, will often have conflicting results far beyond what is considered normal margin of error.

Moreover, I'm surprised an erudite like OP doesn't know this is a secret gov. program to get more info on its citizens. And if they have his brother's info on file, it automatically means they'll have his as well.

I'm no lawyer but if you weren't raised by your biological father the department of child services used to send you a letter when you turned 18 showing the name and address of yours, ever since they enacted the data privacy act this stopped and every time you share your address you have to sign some forms saying exactly when and where your personal info will be distributed.

You can probably find information published before this law without much of a problem but nowadays I'd bet it's much more difficult but not impossible. Addresses are still in every phonebook I think so there's still loopholes.

wouldn't you need the DNA of said relative in some accessible database to prove a match?

with names I suppose it's much easier to get an address/trace of lineage than purely DNA.
